Sequencing & Storytelling using Paper Construction, a workshop for Level 4 students at BCU, Birmingham City University.
We looked at examples of paper construction and folding from different sources that included design/publicity, packaging and story books. The objective was to show how different techniques can be used to sequence and create narratives and how by using just a series of simple folds and/or cuts students could introduce interest, intrigue, surprise and suspense into their stories.
15 students attended the workshop that ran for one afternoon. We practiced the basics then made four different constructions: Map with Self Cover, Peepshow, Un-ravelling Folder, Volvelle.
These projects were intended to be a catalyst for the students to develop and use in their current module, Exploring Meaning Through Narrative.
